Striking GRAMMYs Gold with Target

For the 59th Annual Grammy Awards, Target brought more music to the GRAMMYs® than ever before.

Remaking the classic 1988 rap anthem “It Takes Two” with pop princess Carly Rae Jepsen, up-and-coming rap sensation Lil Yachty, and super-producer Mike WiLL Made-it, we helped Target create one of the most talked about moments at the Grammys.

The accompanying video, directed by Roman Coppola and choreographed by La La Land’s Mandy Moore, brought America’s Happy Place, Target, to life — and music and entertainment press couldn’t stop talking about it.

“Target paired Lil Yachty and Carly Rae Jepsen (with producer Mike WiLL Made-It) for a remake of the seminal hip-hop party anthem ‘It Takes Two.’ Their version — wacky, electric, colorful and more than tolerable — aired at full length at full product-placement-as-music-video format, and was a more current statement about pop music’s evolution than anything on the main show.”

“As usual, the Grammys were a big old mess, but one bright spot was this Target commercial featuring Carly Rae Jepsen and Lil’ Yachty, covering the classic song ‘It Takes Two.'”

“…was plenty of fun — a three-minute music video with Carly Rae Jepsen and Lil Yachty doing their own version of the ’80s hit ‘It Takes Two’ (originally recorded by Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock).“

“Whodda thunk the creator of one of 2015′s best albums, E•MO•TION, would sound right at home with hip-hop’s rising stars? Target did, because Target gets (l)it.”

“Weirdly, the music in the ads was fire all night – [like] the Target ad with Lil Yachty and Carly Rae Jespen doing ‘It Takes Two.'”
